Kate Thomas

Kate Thomas, at 69, is a late to the game watercolors.  She was born in Holyoke Massachusetts, the second of 4 children.  Her dad took a job with IBM and within a few years her family settled in Hurley, New York in the Hudson Valley. Kate was artistic by nature but in her High School years became a competitive swimmer.  She was greatly influenced by her club coach and chose a career in Physical Education and Coaching.  Kate married after receiving her BS from SUNY Cortland.  After teaching and coaching in upstate New York for a two years she moved to Rhode Island for a few years and then on to Virginia where she had a daughter, Shannon.  A year later she began a career in Prince William County that would span 32 years as a teacher and a coach.  Her artistic endeavors during those years of parenting, teaching and coaching were limited to crafts and occasional sketches.  Once retired she purchased some brushes, paints and paper and took lessons and attended some workshops.  Kate feels like she is just beginning and has plenty to learn with each painting. She loves sharing her newfound passion with her grandchildren.  Kate resides in Marshall Virginia with her husband Chris, their two Australian Shephards and currently 19 chickens.
