Robert Strasser

I have worked in studio ceramics for 35 years, and developed a variety of specialized skill sets and specializations.  Several are rare methods tracing back hundreds of years in redware and other pottery making methods. Special interests include artisanal slipware, wood fired pottery and biogeographical mosaics. Pattern and texture fascinate me.  I have also been a clay instrument maker, completing about 450 hand drums and other percussion instruments.  More recently I have grown quite interested in spherical sculptures and inspired by the great discoveries that are being made currently in astronomy with modern tools such as the James Webb telescope.  I studied natural sciences and arts and have worked in both fields as well as been an outdoor and classroom educator in various subjects from preschool to adults.  The mid - Atlantic has been my home for most of my life, and I am glad to call this special region home.
