Ken Clark — Biography
Born in Pennsylvania, the love of drawing began in grade school. In his mid-teens the family moved to Baltimore and it was then the real dream of someday being an artist started to grow. As a young adult and, still keeping his dream alive, Ken pursued a career in advertising and design. Years later, he launched his own freelance design business.Ken considers his style representational / impressionism. He moves from landscapes and animals to still life, and finds enjoyment in plein air. He prefers oils but also works with charcoal at times. He continues to learn and tries different techniques to evolve and grow his art.His inspiration is drawn from Joaquin Sorolla, John Singer Sargent, Richard Schmid, Arthur Streeton, Robert Wood and Monet. He owes his progress to his instructors at the Schuler School of Fine Art, Hans Guerin, Beth de Loiselle, David Buckley Goode, Andrew Guerin and Fritz Briggs. He’s attended workshops with renown artists Nancy Tankersley, Christine Lashley, Henry Yan and Susan Story.Over the years Ken has been commissioned to paint many pet portraits as well as several landscapes. He has sold paintings through the student and faculty shows at Schuler School in Baltimore, Art at the Mill in Millwood, VA and The Baltimore County Artist Guild. He participated in Maryland Plein Air events such as Paint-It Ellicott City winning 2 awards, Easton Plein Air and Chestertown. Additionally, he has donated paintings from time-to-time to benefit several fund-raising events. Ken is a member of Maryland Plein Air Painters Association (MAPAPA), Working Artists Forum in Easton (WAF board member) and Howard County Arts Council (HoCoArts).
