Liz Hackney Art Bio
Liz first painted in watercolor studying with Lassie Corbet at the Herndon Gallery and taking workshops with the late watermedia master Alex Powers of Myrtle beach. After a successful watercolor career she yearned to push thick oil paint around. In 2021 to avoid solvents she chose water mixable Cobra oil paints mixed with cold wax. Liz makes her own substrates by gluing muslin, linen or weaver’s cloth to plywood followed with several coats of gesso. Armed with painting knives and backpacking techniques she enjoys plein air painting small studies to serve as inspiration to create larger atmospheric, poetic landscapes.
She exhibits spring and fall in “Art at the Mill” show in Millwood,Va.
In 2024 her painting “Garden Path” was selected for the national show Flourish at d’art center Norfolk,Va.
In 2023 her painting “ Charlie’s Barn” was selected to be an Artscape banner in Winchester, Va.
