Mr. Cooper has painted all his life and attended the Rochester Institute of Technology from which he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and illustration. He worked for many years in the art field as a graphic artist and illustrator. After retirement he painted full time as a plein air landscape painter. Many of his larger studio paintings are based on his smaller pleinair sketches.
He has participated in many painting competition and won numerous prizes, most notably: Paint Anapolis, Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, Urban Landscape Award, Marine Landscape Award, Award of Merit and Award of Excellence; Plein Air Competition and Arts Festival, Easton, MD. Honorable Mention, Third Place; Art for the Parks, National Park Academy of the Arts, Bronze Medal - Landscape Art Award; "Realism Today", National Competition, American Artist, October 2000, First Prize Landscape Category.
